We all desire to be happy and desire that one person or object that would make us genuinely happy with no sorrow attached to it but what exactly is happiness?
Happiness is simply the ability to not want more; to find gratitude and satisfaction in the moment that you have right now.
This means that when you are generally happy, you are satisfied with what you have and are present. The important thing however to note is that you can and should be happy alone without any external factor triggering the happiness. To achieve being happy alone, you have to; love your self deeply, understand what makes you truly happy and take good care of yourself. Please note that all these are not acts of being selfish but they are important because true happiness only comes from within.
Today March 20th is a day set aside to celebrate and propagate True Happiness. The International Day of Happiness is a global celebration instituted by the United to remind us all that the world is a better place when we connect with and care about the people around us.
Here are a few tips on how to be Happy all by yourself ;
Figure out what truly makes you happy. This can only happen if you spend time alone with yourself. DOn’t be afraid of being around you alone. The time spent alone with you is the perfect time to know who you are. Watch a movie, read a book or play games just make sure you enjoy your own company.
Find your passion and cultivate it. Is there something you’ve always wanted to do but keep putting it off? What’s wrong with trying it now? When you’re alone, you no longer have to consider other people’s plans. Choose to do something different that will be a challenge for you. It doesn’t matter what it is. It just needs to be something that you’re passionate about.
Have a fresh start. You could do this by re-organising your goals and todo list. It can even be your room that needs to be arranged for that fresh start. It has been proved that re-adjusting one’s life is a sure way to attain true happiness.
Practice Self-love. When you stop thinking about how other people can make you happy and practice self-love, you will soon realize what it feels like to be happy alone and be able to learn to love and accept yourself from the inside out.
Build a healthy lifestyle and exercise often. Take time out to look at what you’ve been feeding yourself with and seek a healthier alternative. You owe it to yourself to be healthy, strong and smart. Adding exercise to your daily routine won’t be such a bad idea too you know and ensure you sleep at the right time.
Step out of your comfort zone. A great way to step out of your comfort zone is to go somewhere and do something new and fun each week.Another great thing about being alone is that no one is there to say no or disagree with your plans. You know the thing about stepping out of your comfort zone? You get to do new things and meet new people, therefore, opening new channels for happiness and finding a new passion. Stepping out of your comfort zone also helps you gain more confidence in new areas.
Be grateful for your past and present. We are who we become because of our life experiences from the past. Forgive yourself and acknowledge your mistakes from the past. Remember that the past does not always dictate your future.
Now that you know how to be happy alone, it’s time to accept yourself for who you are and be positive and optimistic about whatever comes your way.
