The life of a business owner isn’t full of glitz and glamour at all. The path requires that you work the extra mile even on days that your back wants to be glued to your bed. Don’t get deceived that having a regular 9-5 job is you working away your dreams. If you are ever thinking of wearing the shoes of an entrepreneur then you should be ready to a jack of all trade and a master of all.

Ask any successful entrepreneur, the early days is usually filled with you doing the job of a marketer, accountant, business development executive and every other role that need to be filled. This is because you are looking for a cost-effective way to grow your business, improve your customer experience and increase brand awareness. As much as this is not an easy train to be on, sometimes this is one of the sacrifices you have to make if you intend to grow a strong brand.

If you ask me, I think our generation of budding entrepreneurs are having it a little bit easier than the ones that sprang up about 10-15 years ago. Today, you have applications and tools that can help you ease the stress of taking up so many responsibilities that are not usually within your comfort zone.

In this post, I’ve curated some of my favourites tools and applications that I can confidently say that every business owner needs for ease of business. Please note that all of these tools may not be useful for you but you can be assured that these selected ones are going to b useful to you no matter the uniqueness of your business.

Google Drive

Almost every Android or IOS phone comes with a pre-installed Google Drive and it’s high time we all make the best use of it. Google drive simply helps keep your document safe in a cloud system

What is it?

Google Drive is a cloud-based storage solution that allows you to save files online and access them anywhere from any smartphone, tablet, or computer. You can use Drive on your computer or mobile device to securely upload files and edit them online. Drive also makes it easy for others to edit and collaborate on files. It is especially useful for sharing large files like videos that will not go through Gmail. All you need to access this application is your Gmail account.

  • You can scan all your paper documents with Drive for Android. Just snap a photo of documents like receipts, letters and statements – and Drive will store them instantly as PDFs

How to Use it?

  • On your computer, go to drive.google.com. You’ll see “My Drive,” which has: files and folders you upload, Google Docs, sheets, slides and forms.
  • You can upload files from your computer or create files in Google Drive. It allows you to upload large files and you can share with colleagues and clients.
  • You can share files or folders, so other people can view, edit, or comment on them.

Mail chimp

This is a platform that helps you send emails to large subscribers without having to type in their email addresses all the time. Email marketing is one thing that is not going off the radar any time soon. It still has one of the highest conversion rate and this is why you should take it serious.

What is it?

It is basically a free email marketing platform that has proven to be effective for small business owners in collecting email addresses of their potential and existing customers. It allows you to collect emails, create a targeted list, run campaigns and even collect analytics of people that opened your email.

Why I Recommend it?

  • It’s a good and easy platform to use if you’re just starting out on email marketing
  • You can use it for free as long as you have 2,000 or fewer subscribers

How To Use it

  • Login to www.mailchimp.com and signup with your email address
  • Set up your account with the necessary information.
  • Import your existing contact to mail chimp or create a contact form that you can share across various social media platforms to encourage people to signup for your newsletters.

Canva

I personally think that Canva should be included in the pep talk that is given to every new business owner. You need that application on your side through the journey because this can help you ease the stress of design. Honestly, it is easy to use and the end results usually look professional.

What is it?

Canva is a graphics design application that is available both on web and mobile and can be used by non-designers to create professional-looking graphics for basically anything. This app is so versatile that you can use it to produce your entire branding elements like business cards, logo, certificates, brochures etc.

Why I Recommend?

  • It is one of the best free designing platforms that you can ever lay your hands upon as a design beginner.
  • It is easy to use. There are already predesigned templates that you can easily edit to suit whatever purpose.
  • You can use it to design basically anything. Its resolution is so sharp and you can print right away.

How To Use it

Snapseed

Snapseed is a free photo-editing application that comes loaded with with image manipulation tools that are so easy to use. This app is supported by Google and it’s one of the best free photo editing app that you will find.

Why I Recommend?

  • It’s totally free.
  • Easy to use even for an amateur.
  • Simple touches bring the best out of a photo.
  • Available photo presets that you can select from so you don’t have to edit from the scratch.

How To Use?

  • Use it to edit your own photos. It is very important that you are deliberate about making your own content with your product. This will help you have a professional look to your product photos even if you took them with your phone.

Hootsuite

I really love this tool and I literally bless God for the life of my first boss for introducing me to this awesome platform. It is available as a paid and free version and also on the web and mobile phones.

What is it?

It is a social media management tool that allows you to schedule posts on various social media platforms in advance. It is actually a cool tool to help you remain consistent on your various social media accounts without being online 24/7.

Why I Recommend It?

  • It allows you to manage so many different social networks. Hootsuite currently allows you to manage: Facebook Pages, Twitter, LinkedIn pages, Instagram and even WordPress.
  • It has a school called Hootsuite Podium where you have access to free online courses. This means that you can learn a lot on how to use the platform and grow your business on social media
  • Hootsuite provides you with detailed analytics of how your contents are faring.
  • Hootsuite allows you to delegate responses to different team members. So even if you have multiple people managing your accounts they can do that without stress.

How to Use it?

  • Log in with your email address and then connect your various social media accounts accordingly.
  • It is best for scheduling bulk tweets for as long as a month. All you have to do is to upload your excel sheet directly to the platform.

Pocket

This is actually my favourite offline reading app. Of of the surest way to grow is to take time out to read and learn something new daily and this is what Pocket helps you achieve.

What is it?

 The application allows the user to save an article or web page to remote servers for later reading. It makes it easy to discover great content and save this content so you can return to it later – on any device, at any time.  

Why I Recommend it?

  • It’s like a personal library where all your favourite articles remain forever.
  • You no longer have to look around the internet for an article you found valuable while surfing.
  • It has a feature which lets you sync all the articles while you have the internet which you can read later even without the internet.

How To Use It

  •  Log on to GetPocket.com and sign up for an account, if you haven’t already. You can use a Google account, if you like, or you can sign up using any email address and password.
  • To save articles on your Pocket is so simple. Just click the button. In Firefox, the button is in the toolbar.
